How to Join
Getting to know us
We are a family-friendly club and supervised children of all ages are welcome on meets and at the club hut. However, we can only offer formal membership to those aged 18 or over.
Our 200+ members are based mainly around South Manchester, Stockport, Glossop, New Mills, Buxton and Macclesfield. They have diverse interests ranging from rock climbing, sport climbing, alpine climbing and mountaineering to fell running, skiing and mountain biking and our Meets programme reflects this.
About a third of our members (and half of our active members) are women.
It is assumed that you will have some climbing experience. If you are an absolute beginner, then we recommend first attending one of the introductory courses offered by all the local climbing walls.
You are welcome to get to know us a bit first before joining - our meets are very informal and you only need to turn up to get a climb or two. Another good way to find out more about the club is to meet us at The Royal Hotel, Hayfield on a Thursday night. Either way, please contact the Membership Secretary so that we can ensure that you are given a warm welcome.
Types of Membership
The club has 3 types of members - Aspirant, Full and Honorary:
Aspirant Member: A new member must first join as an "Aspirant" member by completing the Aspirant Membership form (see side bar to the right) and submitting the appropriate subscription fee.
Full Member: After attending a few meets and getting to know other club members an Aspirant may apply to upgrade to Full Membership. This step should usually be expected to be taken within 12 months of joining the club and the application is made using a separate Full Membership form (members that are logged in can find this form also on the side bar to the right).
Honorary Member: The club also has a small number of Honorary members who have made an exceptional contribution to the club over many years.
