CLUB MEETS

Meets are an important part of the Mynydd club’s activities – they need both support and leaders. They are the best way for newcomers to get to know other members of the club.

All meets are listed on the relevant section of the website. These can be split into weekend meets where the club either camps, stays in our club hut in North Wales or rents huts belonging to other clubs (often in key locations which would be impossible to book by individuals), and evening meets which consist of local outdoor climbing in summer and indoor wall venues in winter. The club also holds various social meets throughout the winter months with several slideshows, lectures, a photo competition and our much acclaimed annual dinner.

We normally attempt to run at least one Foreign meet each year, be it a ‘Sun-rock’ destination at easter, an Alpine trip in summer or ‘ice meet’ in the winter months (or sometimes all three). Recent trips have taken us to the cliffs of Ireland, Sardinia, El Chorro in Spain, Todra gorge in Morocco, the Lofoten Islands, Chamonix, Cogne, the Old Man of Hoy and too many more to mention.

Scottish winter climbing is also catered for, with annual week long trips at February half-term and further weekend meets to different areas and huts in the Highlands. A springtime trip to climb in the Scottish highlands has also been a regular favourite of the Mynydd for many years.

Family meets also take place with a regular May bank holiday meet at our hut in North Wales, a bonfire meet in November and occasionally a summer trip to France.

Walking, fell running and mountain biking meets often feature in our programme of winter activities.

All we ask is that anyone wishing to go on a weekend meet where accommodation is booked, give as much notice as possible to the meet leader, and generally pay a non-refundable deposit to cover the club’s reservation costs and minimum booking charges – details will normally appear in the newsletter or on the website some time before the meet is due to run.

If you would like to suggest a destination, or better still lead a trip, contact the Meets Secretary – new ideas are always welcome, though bear in mind that work on the next years meets calender is usually well under way by September and many huts require booking 12 months in advance. Be prepared do a bit of chivvying and chasing and prepare a meets report to publish in the club’s journal!

Photos and accounts of meets are always welcome from any individual, however distorted from the truth (!) so don’t be afraid to put fingers to keyboard and submit to the journal editor.
